How can I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?

At Calvary Chapel we believe that you can only be saved through the grace God showered upon us through Jesus Christ. In the Bible it clearly states that we have sinned. Whether we meant to or not we have violated God’s rules. (The 10 commandments, Exodus 20) In Romans 3:23 it states; “For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Isaiah 53:6 states; “All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned, every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Sin is absolutely defeating, even if we regret our trespasses we are powerless to correct them.

What is the problem with Sin?

Sin has two major problems associated with it. The first problem is that sin causes a physical death. Romans 6:23a states; “For the wages of sin is death…” Obviously everyone dies however this is only part of the problem of sin. Sin causes not just a physical death but a spiritual death as well. Hebrews 9:27 states; “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” Sin causes us to have a spiritual death, a separation from God which is known as hell. Hell is simply a place that is void of God. In Luke 8:31 Jesus casts some demons out of a man and the demons beg Jesus not to be cast “into the abyss.” (Hell) The demons themselves see hell as a place so horrible that they do not want to be sent there. This is a position we would never want to be in.
