The
Bible declares that it is “required
in stewards that one be found
faithful.” (I Cor 4:2)
The Lord has blessed each of
us with finances in order that
we may provide for our living,
bless others in need, and advance
His work throughout the earth.
God certainly doesn’t
need our money, He owns “the
cattle on a 1,000 hills.” (Psalm
50:10) Rather, it is His desire
that we learn to trust Him
with our resources that we
might share in His work and
be blessed in return. Jesus
stated, “It is more blessed
to give than to receive.” (Acts
20:35)
Ironically, giving has little
to do with how much an individual
has to offer. It’s foremost
a matter of the heart. Paul
writes, “He who sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly;
and he who sows bountifully
will also reap bountifully.” (2
Cor 9:6) Jesus said, “Give,
and it shall be given to you:
good measure, pressed down,
shaken together, and running
over will be put into your
bosom.” (Luke 6:38).
In fact, during His earthly
ministry, our Lord was moved
by a poor widow who gave her
last two coins into the Temple
treasury. “So He called
His disciples to Himself and
said to them, ‘”Assuredly,
I say to you that this poor
widow has put in more than
all those who have given to
the treasury; for they all
put in out of their abundance,
but she out of her poverty
put in all that she had, her
whole livelihood."’ (Mark
12:43-44)
First
Corinthians 16:2 says, “On
the first day of the week
let each one of you lay something
aside, storing up as he may
prosper, that there be no
collections when I come.”
Therefore, at Calvary Chapel
of Delaware County (CCDC),
our offerings take place
on Sunday morning during
each of our three (3) morning
worship services. For those
who seek their giving to
be more private, there is
an agape box located at the
back of the sanctuary.
Giving is a necessary function
of the church and ordained
by God. That is why at CCDC,
we desire to be good stewards
of all the resources God
provides. We want to use
the monies received to bring
our own people into maturity,
reach out to our community,
and to reach people with
the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We take great concern in
this area emphasizing excellence
in the counting, accounting,
and use of all finances at
CCDC.
The
elders agree that the effect
to which we handle
finances directly impacts
our ability to do quality
ministry. One final thought
on giving comes from the
lips of King David who said, “No,
but I will surely buy it
from you for a price; nor
will I offer burnt offerings
to the Lord my God with that
which costs me nothing.” (2
Sam 24:24)
